Homecoming
poems by Helen Dougher
Illustrations: Laura Urquhart
64 pages, trade paperback, $7.95
ISBN 0-919676-48-0

A collection of polished gems of verse culled from publications of three countries: Canada (
Chatelaine), England (Cheshire Life) and the United States (Good Housekeeping).. Helen's theme is universal love of home. About to leave for Europe the poet expresses reluctance, followed by travel impressions, and finally thoughts on her return. With its combination of consummate professionalism and universal subject matter, this poet's work appeals to a wide spectrum of tastes and sensibilities.
About the Author
Helen Dougher's poetry is that of a highly accomplished artist who works in the "traditional" vein. Her lyrics reveal a writer who observes the beauty of nature and the human condition, characterized by grief, joy and despair. She writes, "Poetry has been my life. I have followed no literary fashions but have written from my own experience and emotions." Helen spent most of her life in Hamilton Ontario, and was a vital member of the Tower Poetry Society.
About the Illustrator
Laura Urquhart is a reknowned painter/illustrator situated in Kitchener Ontario. Her work appears in other Potlatch titles: Susan Super Sleuth, Eastmall and Canadian Children's Annual.

Reviews
"In a time in which so many images are created and edited by machines for calculated effect, Dougher's poems delightfully invite listeners to create their own vision."

William Guyatt
Hamilton Spectator.

"These gentle verses cover a wide range of topics loosely connected with the theme of travel. Through pointed use of imagery and phrases, Dougher creates picture-postcard scenes familiar to us all. Dougher varies her rhyme schemes and line lengths, helping to make her poems visually pleasing and interesting to read. Like the memories of pleasant journeys, each should be savored one at a time."

Gertrude Olga Down
Hamilton Spectator.
