About the Author
Valerie Nielsen was born in England and came to Canada in 1951 with her parents, Marjorie and Charles Wilkinson. Both parents were widely published, and Charles served as Religion Editor with The Hamilton Spectator. Valerie attended Hamilton Teachers' College and taught in elementary schools. Later she completed her B.A. in Religious Studies and English Literature at the University of Toronto, and a Master of Religious Education at Emmanuel College, Toronto School of Theology. She served on the ministerial staff of United Churches in Ontario. Formerly married to Rev. John Griffin, she has two daughters - Mary and Julia - and a son Paul.
Valerie now lives on the shore of Lake Ontario in Stoney Creek Ontario, with her husband Robert, and enjoys facilitating writing circles in her church.

Reviews
Reviewer Number One: "In Green Light, Valerie Nielsen offers a window into an imaginative world of emotional richness and nuance...In every poem we hear a feminine voice that honours the writing impulse and the drive to create the self through words. As well as images of family, nature, love and commitment, we view through Valerie's window, a personality of warm humanity and engagement with life."

Edith K. Smith, Instructor, Creative Writing Program, McMaster University, Hamilton Ontario

Reviewer Number Two: "Reading Nielsen's poetry is like sitting down with a clear-eyed friend who offers wisdom and joy in equal measure. Her voice is guileless, attractive and honest. This is a friendship to be re-visited often - beauty and wit and good sense, available whenever needed."

Donna Sinclair, Contributing Editor, The United Church Observer
